2009 SuperLiga: 2 games 0 goals

By: Alan | June 27th, 2009

Tomorrow is Atlas’ last group game of the 2009 SuperLiga tournament. Atlas currently has 2 points coming from two 0-0 draws with KC Wizards and Santos Lagunas, tomorrow they will face the group leaders, New England Revolution for a chance to advance out of the group stage.

The Atlas team that is in the United States for the SuperLiga is very different from the team we can expect to be on the field for week one of the Apertura 2009 tournament. This is due to the fact that coach La Volpe is trying out a lot of farm players in order to have a better picture of what he has to work with come the Apertura tournament.

There is news that one of Atlas’ new players, Miguel Zepeda, has made the trip to the US and will get some playing time tomorrow. Coach La Volpe said this will be to judge the physical preparedness of Zepeda who went a year without much playing time.

With a win tomorrow, Atlas would move to 5 points and would all but guarantee their passage into the semifinals, while a tie still leaves them with a chance of advancing, depending on the outcome of the Santos vs. KC game.

Tough loss for Atlas yesterday in New England. But was that their third jersey they were wearing? It’s pretty different from their normal look…

I think the jersey they were wearing might be their new Away kit, although it could be the third. I wasn’t very fond of the ‘Atlas’ across the chest
