Atlas 0 – 4 Cruz Azul
By: Alan | January 24th, 2009
Okay, the game’s been over for a while and I’ve had a time to cool off, but still this post isn’t going to be pretty as there is no silver lining in the cloud that was Atlas 0 – 4 Cruz Azul, but hey let’s get on with it.
Let’s get the good things out of the way: Atlas showed up. Okay, now that that’s taken care of we can get on with the ranting, although I don’t know where to begin.
Atlas had more players with yellow cards than they had shots on goal, that isn’t cool, ever. The team was making dumb mistakes and causing childish penalties. Also, coach Dario’s choice to play a full on attack in the second half while only being down 1-0 was a terrible idea, and the reason why Atlas let in two goals on a counter attack.
Well that and the fact that no one wanted to play defense. I don’t know why not, but maybe it’s because if you’re not there the goalie can’t yell at you after a goal, sure let’s go with that.
More than anything, I think someone up there (and I mean way up) didn’t want us to win. I mean, how else can you explain missing a goal by hitting the uprights twice, and then having the ball bounce off Marioni’s legs (who’s standing if front of an empty net) into the goalie’s hands (who was on the ground)?
Well, the only excuse I can put up is that Atlas isn’t a good away team, but we’ll see whether that’s true as they get to play at home next week.
