Atlas 0 – 3 Monterrey: Showing Up the Old Guys
By: Alan | August 3rd, 2009
Atlas wasn’t able to break their slump as visitors to Monterrey, as the team lost 3-0 in a game that looked sloppy all the way through. However, the U-20 team managed a 1-1 draw while the U-17 team came away with a 3-0 win.
Atlas didn’t produce many scoring chances and those they did the team wasn’t able to put away. There was one shot which rattled the woodwork but for the most part Atlas seemed shy on the attack.
In defense, Chavez left very much to be desires, as he gave the ball away to Monterrey’s forwards which led to the second goal. Overall the team made a lot of careless turnovers and seemed disorganized on defense. Botinelli also managed to get another yellow card for, you guessed it, talking back to the referee.
However, all is not bad. Atlas is second behind Toluca in group 1. Next week they will be hosting Santos who they played in the SuperLiga to a draw.
Hopefully we start seeing the summer transfers start playing a little more comfortably especially since there’s not a lot of options in the attacking department.
