Atlas 1 – 0 Pumas: now with 100% more accuracy
By: Alan | July 26th, 2009
First week, first win and all is good in Zorro land as Atlas showed of their new kits. Atlas beat last tournament champions Pumas by the minimal margin of 1 with a great goal by Pacheco on an even greater feed by Osorno.
Atlas dominated much of the first half even though Pumas scored a goal that was called back due to an offside. The goal itself came on a half-goal that Osorno crossed into the waiting head of Pacheco who seems to be showing that his performance last tournament was no fluke.
In the second half Atlas lost dominance of the game and it was mostly all Pumas all the time. However, although Atlas had very little attacking plays in the second half they did defend well and managed to protect their minimal margin of victory all the way to the final whistle.
The team looks good but with only one game played and having to play it at home it’s still too early to tell if Atlas has enough in them this tournament to make it to the liguilla, but starting off with three points is a step in that direction.
