Atlas 1 – 1 Puebla
By: Alan | March 2nd, 2009
Atlas tied yesterday with Puebla in their week 8 game visiting Puebla. The point puts atlas in fourth place of group 3 with nine points, three points behind second and third place Jaguares and San Luis, each of which have twelve points. In the overall table, Atlas is in 14th place.
Atlas dominated most of the first half but couldn’t show it in the scoreboard. However, the team was fighting for possession, keeping the ball and had a couple of good looks on goal. Regardless of all that the first half ended 0-0.
In the second half Puebla came out more attack minded and began to see their share of goal scoring opportunities. Ex-Atlas player Daniel Osorno finally concreted one of these opportunities in the 55th minute. However, Atlas didn’t take too long to tie things up thanks to a bad play by the Puebla keeper in the 63rd minute. Atlas captain, Hugo Ayala was the man who scored the equalizing goal for Atlas.
The result is not a bad one, it put Atlas three points behind third and second place with 9 more games to play. Also, every game Atlas gets closer to perfect Lavolpe’s method of play. There are still some kinks to work out in finishing as well as with new starting goalie Canales who seems to hesitate at times between the uprights.
After the game, el Turbo Vargas said, “Today we tried to maintain what we have been doing in the past two games, I think that we won a positive point regardless of the fact that we could have won de game. The last fifteen minutes we were lacking possession and taking advantage of the spaces that Puebla left.”
Atlas’ next game will be at home against Indios de Ciudad Juárez.

lol I didn’t realize that was still there, when I am translating a quote I paste in the text so I don’t have to switch back and forth between pages, I guess I left that there. I have to stop writing my stories at 3 AM
