Atlas 2 – 1 Santos

By: Alan | October 26th, 2008

First of all, did I call it or what? I mean I was dead on. But apart from my near psychic like prediction, it was a great game for Atlas.

First of all Bottinelli played like a man who was in a championship game. He was showing a lot of hustle and finishing plays out, there is a clip in the video where he goes down, and instead of appealing to the ref, gets back up and takes a shot on goal that needed a big stop on the part of Oswaldo. Perhaps it is fitting that in the 52nd minute Bottinelli scored the first goal, in brilliant fashion I might add.

Shortly after Atlas’ goal Santos saw el “Guti” Estrada leave the match with a double yellow card, this was especially hard on a Santos team that was already missing Christian Benitez who was out with an injury.

The second goal came in the 70th minute by way of Edgar Pacheco who had the only goal against Necaxa. It seems that Pacheco is making himself heard a bit in Atlas, two goals in two games, I’d make sure that he gets more playing time.

The game overall was very exciting, there were many good runs by both teams and some great stops by both keeper and the woodwork. I think this was a big game for Atlas and hopefully they are able to take this momentum and play out the rest of their games like this.

Atlas reached 18 points and sits in 4th place of group 3, playoff hopes are still alive.
