Brindisi Gets Booted
By: Alan | September 5th, 2008
With Atlas’ disappointing performance in the Primera Division, 1-4-2, it was only a matter of time before something had to give, and that something turned out to be a someone, coach Brindisi.
Coach Brindisi was given his walking papers on Thursday, and there is still no official news on the team site.
Brindisi took over Atlas Nov. 30th of last year and was at the helm of Atlas during the Clausura 2008, taking them to the wildcard game (for lack of a better word) where they lost to Necaxa. However, Brindisi had better luck with the Copa Libertadores 2008 where they made it all the way to the quarter finals before being taken out by Boca Juniors at home, it still hurts.
Brindisi was a good sport about all this and at the press conference expressed his gratitude towards Atlas for allowing him the chance to coach in Mexico and be part of the Atlas family. Brindisi fell short of his contract extension with Atlas.
To replace Brindisi is Dario Franco, another Argentinian, who has coached Morelia and Tecos.
Atlas next game is on Sept 13th against Puebla.

Big mistake, Atlas has the same problem as Chivas by having so many young players. If they gave Mexican coaches enough damn time they could actually get something done.
Sadly, this is why Atlas hasn’t won anything for 54 years.

Atlas needs to find a winning way….How…Better coaching? or more money to buy better players? Both might help.

better coaching with a little more money to buy good players. atlas has enough damn money, the directiva right now is just too cheap to let any of it go. meanwhile, the atlas youth system is one of the most lauded and respected in mexico, so as far as young talent goes we’re not exactly running dry.
