Countdown to El Clasico: Violence Free Game
By: Alan | March 11th, 2009
With the city derby against Chivas inching closer, both teams are preparing for the big game with more than just laps. Both club presidents are urging their fans to make this clasico violence free.
The push to make this game violence free was made more urgent after Chivas fans took a flag from Atlas fans at a rally. This prompted Atlas fans to make threats over the internet, the threats escalated and some Atlas fans went as far as threatening to kill Chivas fans if the flag wasn’t returned.
In response, Chivas club president Jorge Vergaras returned the flag to the Atlas fans and pleaded to both sides for a peaceful game. Vergara also assured Atlas fans that the responsible parties were found and punished accordingly. Atlas president joined Vergara in asking all fans to make sure that on Saturday we celebrate the beautiful game.
On the subject, El Pollo added “the only thing we ask is that it’s a calm game and that there is no incidents because there will be families at this game. Hopefully everything will be calm and we have a great game, which is what the people want”
I agree completely with el Pollo, the sad thing about violence at football games is that it makes parents question about whether or not to take their kids to games. The best part about football is that for a lot of people their earliest and best memories come at football stadiums when they were too young to know what a formation is. These games are for everybody and starting an incident at them makes you a selfish [insert gender appropriate insult].
