Dario Franco Resigns

Just when I thought the 4-0 spanking against Cruz Azul was bad, it seems that things get worse for Atlas as coach Dario resigned Monday morning after rumors flying around that Atlas was looking for his replacement.

Of course by rumors I mean, Atlas was actively searching for a replacement and even has a list of candidates. That list is:

• Ricardo Antonio Lavolpe
• Américo Rubén Gallego
• Sergio Bueno Rodríguez
• Tomás Boy Espinoza

So, in order to avoid being fired Dario quit, pretty reasonable given the circumstances. Dario’s job was in jeopardy following an InterLiga that was a little bit below the expectations of the players and the higher ups. Of course following a 4-0 loss Dario must have known that it was time to update his resume.

Franco offered his comments over a phone interview:
“I tried to talk to the players so that things would be better, however, things didn’t work out as planned and we got the results that you all know about [4-0]. I leave calm and am confident in my work and what I believe in, I’m very grateful to everyone. I think the team finished the InterLiga well and maybe we weren’t the team that everyone thought put we also weren’t as bad as it seemed. If my job was in jeopardy it was because they didn’t trust in my work.”

Inspiring words from the ex-skipper “we weren’t as bad as it seemed”, yes that’s what we all want to hear, “we don’t suck that bad”. That’s like saying to your date “you’re not that fat” try that one out and see how it works.

For now it seems like Atlas is still without a coach, as the favorite cadidate, Lavolpe, might be too pricey for Atlas. It will be interesting to see who will lead Atlas in their first home game against Tigres this Saturday.
