FC Atlas, A Team in Perspective

By: Alan | March 18th, 2008

Atlas ShieldFC Atlas was founded in 1916 by a group of friends who learned to play football in European universities. Although the team has only won the Mexican Championship once, in 1951 (that just means they’re due for another, right?), they have produced many great players through their training camps. Some players worth mentioning:

Pável Pardo (VfB Stuttgart)
Rafael Márquez (Barcelona)
Andrés Guardado (Deportivo de La Coruña)

Atlas 101:

  • Ground – Estadio Jalisco (Guadalajara, Jalisco)
  • Nickname – Zorros (Foxes)
  • Supporters – La Fiel (the faithful)
  • Rivals – Club Deportivo Guadalajara a.k.a Las Chivas
  • Derby Name – Clásico Tapatío

They have a thing for turning out young talent and playing attacking football. I agree they do deserve some silverware.
