i-MACUE-late Win

Luis Robles week 12Luis “el Macue” Robles was able to end Atlas’ 3-game draw streak with a swing of his right leg as Atlas beat Morelia 1-0 in their week 12 game at home.

This is only Robles’ third goal in the tournament, but when they’re game winners, who’s complaining?

Morelia had many opportunities early on, but goalie Jorge Bava proved to be strong in front of the net, if a bit scared of the ball (watch him turn his head away to block a shot). Marioni and Medina also had opportunities but neither could capitalize, and in the end it took a defender to give Atlas the win and the three points.

After the goal, Atlas entrenched themselves in their half of the pitch, and made sure there were no 90 minute game equalizer coming from Morelia.

The game puts Atlas in second place of group two, only one point behind Santos who is still to play against Tecos, later today. If Tecos beats Santos, Atlas would have a chance next week of taking over the number one spot in the group.

It’d be extremely unusual if Tecos beat Santos. Santos has been playing some great football.
