Pre-Season Schedule

By: Alan | July 2nd, 2008

Atlas has released a schedule of their pre-season opponents.

Atlas will play on Omaha from Kansas, then face the MLS Kansas Wizards. After the short US tour Atlas will play Libertad de Paraguay and finally Segunda de Cihuatlán which is a Mexican team.

Their schedule certainly seems well-rounded, with a team from the MLS, an outside team, and a Mexican team. Although I think it would have been better for Atlas to play higher profile teams I think that they aren’t as well known outside of Mexico and therefore can’t land the high teams. Nonetheless, it’s good to see that not only Atlas but other Mexican teams have begun to play pre-season games outside of Mexico in order to prepare themselves for the season.

Especially with a new squad I think these pre-season games will help coach Brindisi finish up the roster and formation. I think of all the pre-season games, the one against the Kansas City Wizards should be the most interesting, that game is on the 11th of July.

I’m going to see the game in Omaha tonight! It should be fun to see some quality play. I’m fairly new as a fan to the game and did not realize until the other day that Atlas and The Wizards have a partnership arrangement. This helped me finally make up my mind as to which Mexican League team to adopt! This will put me at odds with some of my Mexican friends, though, since they are Chivas and Cruz Azul supporters.

I just got back from the game. No it was not a quick commute. For some reason, they keep placing an Australian flag with my posts. I actually live in Nebraska. Anyway, it was a great night. Morrison Stadium was more packed than I’ve ever seen it. We don’t get a chance to see teams of this caliber here that often, and fans of all team persuasions showed up with their colors. There were a lot of Atlas fans, too. I did not realize we had so many in Omaha. The game ended 6 to 0, two of the points on PK’s. Considering who they were playing, the local amateur team played tough, although I got the impression that Atlas was not exerting themselves to their greatest extent. I would have liked to see a few more of their shots go in as they had several other good opportunities. All in all a great opportunity to see a top team play.

For those who are confused on my Aussie flag comment, so am I. Both the original post and the last one now display an American flag. Not that this is a bad thing!

Hey there Mike, glad to have a new fan on board. I think the game with the Wizards will be more competitive, although 6-0 win is good news to a fan. Again, always glad to have another fan.
