Preview: Atlas vs. Santos

By: Alan | October 24th, 2008

Week 14 will see Atlas against Santos playing in the Estadio Jalisco.

Atlas is coming off a win against Necaxa thanks to a great individual goal by Edgar Pacheco. Santos is coming off a win against Jaguares in the last league game as well as a rout of Tauro in the CONCACAF Champions league. Advantage: Santos.

However, not all is bad, it seems that the players are realizing that there is a sense of urgency in order to save this seson. Torres Nilo said that he will be playing the rest of the tournament like he was playing in a final, and commented that the rest of the team has taken on the same attitude. However, he cautions that the team will also play level headed as to not make any mistakes due to emotion.

The game against Santos will be the debut of U-17 World Champion Jorge Hernandez, who will come in for the injured Luis Robles. Hernandez, will not start but has been called up to join the first team and will be available as a substitute.

Santos is the defending league champ and are second in group 1 while Atlas is fourth in group 3 and falls two points behind third place.

I think that Santos will suffer from slight fatigue from playing both the Mexican league and the Champion’s and I’m counting on Atlas’ new sense of urgency to pull them through this one.

My Prediction: Atlas 2 – 1 Santos
FIFA 09 Prediction: Atlas 0 – 2 Santos
