Preview: Atlas vs. Tecos

By: Alan | March 20th, 2008

Bruno MarioniWith the game against Tecos approaching, it’s time for players on both teams to start making promises. For Atlas, it was Bruno Marioni and Diego Colotto who have led the passive aggressive trash talking.

Forward Bruno Marioni commented that although the game will be held in Tecos’ “Tres de Marzo” stadium, the fact that both teams play in Guadalajara allows for team supporters from both teams to be present in numbers. Marioni went on to say that he has no doubt that the stadium will be turned into an extension of Atlas’ home pitch “Estadio Jalisco” and although they are written down as the visiting team, they will in fact be hosting Tecos. Getting back to football, Marioni said that the team will have to play like they did last week in the second half against Pumas (a game they managed to tie after trailing 2-0) if they have a chance of winning.

For his part, defender Diego Colotto, who used to play for Tecos, says that he sees Atlas going far both in the Mexican tournament and in the Copa Libertadores. He was shy to trash talk his old team, saying they’re “a good team with many new additions, who plays well strategically” but that in the end in comes down to the eleven men on the pitch and to their performance.

It looks like this might be a good game, Atlas is currently second in Group 2 trailing leader Santos by 4 points, while Tecos is at the bottom of Group 1.

My prediction: Atlas wins 3 -1.
