Preview: Atlas vs. Tigres

By: Alan | April 19th, 2008

Atlas vs. TigresToday Atlas will host Tigres in their week 15 game, the game starts at 10 PM Eastern and can be seen in the states through Galavision.

Atlas has faced Tigres 10 times in el estadio Jalisco and of these matches Atlas has won 4 of them, tied 4 and lost 2. The most recent of these encounters was in last years clausura tournament in which Atlas beat Tigres 2-0. In the current tournament both teams have 16 points, but Atlas enjoys a higher overall table position, 11th.

Atlas won’t be able to count on Achucarro who is out for 6 months following an injury, but can count on the return of Ulises Mendivil who recovered from his injury. Atlas really needs a win if they hope to stay close in the race to qualify for la liguilla. Atlas lost the number 2 spot in group 3 to Monterrey, who will play Chivas as Omar Bravo STILL looks for his 100th goal. Atlas is only behind by 2 points, which means an Alas win and a Monterrey loss would see Atlas back at the number two spot. Tigres doesn’t have much hope of qualifying for la liguilla from the 5th spot in group 3. For this reason I think Atlas will be the more attacking team in the game, especially since they’ll benefit from a home crowd.

My Prediction: Atlas 3-1 Tigres
FIFA 08 Prediction: Atlas 1-2 Tigres
