Tigers, Oh My!

By: Alan | April 21st, 2008

Atlas vs. TigresUlises Mendivil was brilliant in his return and scored the only goal in Atlas’ game with Tigres. Mendivil headered in a cross in the 39th minute to give Atlas the tree points in el estadio Jalisco.

This win was big, especially since Monterrey had won earlier (and still no 100th from Omar Bravo) which meant Atlas needed to win in order to stay in the hunt for la liguilla. There are now two games left in the season and Atlas is still two points back of the number two spot in group 2. All is not lost if Atlas can’t make the second place spot in group 2, Atlas is currently 10th in the overall table, which means they would have a chance to enter la liguilla through a run-off game.

The victory against Tigres will have to be short lived because Atlas must prepare for their last Copa Libertadores game, and with only 3 points separating the top three teams, Atlas can’t afford to cruise against Colo Colo. However, it’s good to see that even without Achucarro Atlas has players who can finish plays and score goals.
